Goosebumps House of Shivers

Scariest. Book. Ever.

September 19, 2023

This book is about two kids called Betty and Biily, who are visiting their Uncle Wendell, a man who lives in an isolated house near the Wayward Forest, while their parents go on a trip to London. When they find their Uncle Wendell, he tells them that they have come at a bad time, because he was in possession of a dangerous book known as "The Scariest Book Ever", that was recently stolen. That book contains pure evil inside it, and if it is opened, lots of monstruous creatures will be unleashed into the real world, so it's very important for them to recuperate the book, and to do so, they have to go inside the Wayward Forest, that is habitated by a lot of strange creatures that have evolved in some unpredictable ways due to the lack of human interference, because no one dares to enter in that forest. After facing some dangerous creatures in the forest, such as man-bats (Bats with human faces) they find the book but now they have to confront a much bigger menace. The main villains of this book are called the Bookworm and the Collector, who are specialized in stealing books just to keep them, not to read them. After making it out alive from some life or death situations, Betty, Billy and Uncle Wendell manage to deceive them and getting the book. This is a very standard Goosebumps book for me, it's not one of the best nor one of the worst, but I think the most disappointing aspect of the book is that it is never explained why the book is so dangerous, it is only said that if the book is opened, evil will be on the loose in the world, so the book acts like a sort of Pandora's Box. Also the ending was not one of the best endings that I've read on a Goosebumps book, but it was decent. I like that in this new book series, they are using the original Goosebumps logo again, after not using it for so many years, also each chapter has a title, something that doesn't usually happens in the Goosebumps books, at least not in the latest series, such as Goosebumps HorrorLand, Goosebumps Most Wanted or Goosebumps SlappyWorld. The book has a very good pacing and it was light and quick to read, so in general I liked it, as most of the Goosebumps books, and I want to continue with this series.
